“Hey neighbor, what are you doing for school this year?”
“We just enrolled for in-person. What about you? Are you sending your kids back?”
“No way.”
“Oh, so you chose remote learning?”
“Nope.”
“Then you’re homeschooling?”
“Definitely not!”
“What other choices are there?”
“Good question…”
The 2020-2021 school year is upon us. So whether the above scenario is a conversation you have overheard, one you’ve actually had verbatim, or just running inner dialogue; I bet you can relate to it.
Last week my sister had to turn in her decision regarding my nieces’ and nephew’s school choice. Night of, we talked on the phone and she told me, “I was making myself sick going back and forth between what to do. So I just picked and now I’m going to focus on enjoying the rest of summer.” I was proud of her. Why? My sister took the information she had available and made the best decision she could for herself and her family.
I invite you to give yourself grace during this tumultuous time and to acknowledge that you are doing the best you can. Focus less on what decision you think you should make, and more on the one you want to make. When all is said and done, there is no right or wrong decision, there is only the next best decision.
Take care,
Ms. Jones
